We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer, to work
in the Research & Development department of a very
strong and growing engineering company in Devon.
They have a long track record of success and really
look after their staff and their development.
This position would suit a Graduate Engineer with a
degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related
subject, together with some initial experience in a
design role.
This interesting and varied role will involve the
design of new and improved products from concept to
manufacture (mechanical sliding systems for wide
ranging applications), the support and maintenance
of existing products and the creation of product
documentation; including CAD models, drawings,
Customer CAD data, instructions, manuals and
catalogues. You will be working in a small and
skilled team with opportunity to rapidly develop
your skills.
The successful candidate will be required to create
and document designs using CAD tools, in order to
identify where calculations and tests are required,
and to perform and document these calculations and
tests. A high degree of technical competence, a
strong work ethic, excellent communication skills
and computer literacy are pre-requisites for this
post.
SolidWorks and AutoCAD CAD experience would be an
advantage, although training will be provided to
candidates experienced with other design tools.
The main purpose and scope of the position, is to
design and document new products, equipment and
processes, to manage such projects and to maintain
and support existing products, equipment and
processes for the company.

responsibilities for the role
- Design new products
- Design new equipment and processes
- Produce catalogues, data sheets and publicity
materials
- Produce CAD data, images and video
- Produce manuals and instructions.
- Perform calculations, analyses and create reports
- Generate ideas and identify opportunities for new
products
- Make changes to existing products, which may be
additions or modifications.
The role of the Design Engineer is a very broad one
and the above list is therefore not exclusive, and
the duties may extend beyond those detailed above.
