We are providers to the Department for Work and Pensions supporting its' Jobcentre Plus initiative aimed at getting newly unemployed professionals back to work sooner by providing the skills needed for successful 21st century job hunting.

People referred to us by Jobcentre Plus will receive free career counselling and guidance on topics such as CV writing, interviewing skills, market intelligence and job search techniques including making best use of the internet to find work.

The contract, that started in April 2009 is for two years and it is estimated that around 20,000 professional people per year will benefit from the programme.

The one day course includes:

    • CV and cover letter review
    • how to get your CV found online
    • how to get short listed
  • Job searching
    • An insight into how agencies search for candidates
    • job boards: job search and getting your profile seen
    • search engines - techniques to find live vacancies
    • employer web sites: finding jobs and contacts
    • Making best use of the Press for leads and contacts
  • Guidance and support
    • Interview techniques
    • How to deal with agencies
    • Web 2.0: online networking methods that really work
    • Creating your personal action plan
    • Follow up support

    How to access the service via the Job Centre:

  • You need to be a registered job seeker with Job Centre Plus
  • Request the following service: “Jobsearch Support for Newly Unemployed Professionals”
  • Ask your advisor to fill in form SL2JP
  • Ask to be referred to “ARV Solutions”
  • It is early days, and not all Job Centre staff may be aware of it yet, so be proactive.
