In competition with a long standing retained Search Agency we were given a demanding brief to source a candidate who had experience developing new business / growing membership, and lobbying relevant public sector bodies and government, as well as raising the profile of the Trade Association in challenging times with the key issues of recession and perceived detrimental technical issues to deal with.

Additionally we ideally needed to source from a closely related sector with a good understanding of our clients market, but specifically NOT from the within it to ensure no bias or issues within the membership. There was a further preference not to engage a traditional Trade Association figure.

  • Role was carefully advertised, and we carried out extensive networking throughout related industries to determine the most suitable candidates. We produced a shortlist of 8 candidates that we had pre-interviewed face to face, 5 of whom where interviewed by the Board along with our Managing Director (along with one candidate from competing agency)
  • The candidate sourced (still in place) was from a competing trade sector background, experienced in working with Constructing Excellence at a high level and therefore government and membership. 
  • Duration 3 months from instruction to offer, then 3 further weeks to start due to Christmas break. Initial short-listing completed over three weeks. The process lengthened a little due to availability of all board members for interviews.
